$100,000 grant awarded for Point Place launch

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded Toledo $100,000 for the construction of a small-craft boat launch to be built in Point Place along Shoreland Avenue near Engel Boulevard for access to the Ottawa River.

Toledo Councilman Lindsay Webb, whose district includes Point Place, said the city requested $170,000 for the project.

Ms. Webb said a number of nearby residents were opposed to the boat access because of concerns about parking and traffic.

The ramp will be only large enough to accommodate canoes and kayaks, she said.

City officials said construction would begin next year.
