Suspect in clinic holdup enters not guilty plea

A Toledo man apprehended by an off-duty police officer and accused of robbing a chiropractic clinic pleaded not guilty yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Ernest Murphy, 20, of 5817 Dorr St., Apt. 1, who is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, was being held in the county jail in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

Mr. Murphy is accused of using a knife to rob two patients and an employee in the waiting room of the chiropractor s office, 1825 North Reynolds Rd.

After he left the office, Mr. Murphy was chased by Dan Wagner, president of the Toledo Police Patrolman s Association, who was at the clinic receiving treatment when he was alerted to the robbery. Mr. Wagner caught the suspect in the 5200 block of Brandel Circle and held him until police officers arrived, police said.
