SANDUSKY, Ohio A waterpark resort that opened last summer is closing and laying off 100 employees after filing for bankruptcy.
The Maui Sands Resort in Sandusky is one of several waterparks that opened in Ohio in recent years as a twist on traditional amusement parks.
Company spokesman Lexi Robinson said guests were unhappy with unfinished construction at the park but the main reason for the shutdown is the poor economy.
The company hopes to reopen the waterpark next summer.
