Former worker at church guilty of child porn

A former maintenance worker at Rosary Cathedral has pleaded guilty in federal court to having child pornography on his personal computer.

Daniel Szymanski of Sylvania pleaded guilty to the charge Nov. 4 in U.S. District Court and will be sentenced Feb. 23. He is out on bond.

The Catholic Diocese of Toledo on Thursday sent a letter to parishioners and parents of students to advise them of the situation.

Mr. Szymanski resigned from his position at the parish and school on May 19 after he learned he was the focus of a federal child-pornography investigation.

The diocese has reviewed all computers at the parish and school and found no pornography had been downloaded onto diocesan computers.
