Suspect charged in Christmas night shooting of mother, daughter

WILLARD, Ohio A man has been charged with the Christmas day shooting of two relatives in their home in Huron County southeast of here, the county sheriff s office said.

Nicanor Garcia, 35, appeared in Norwalk Municipal Court Friday on two counts of attempted murder. He is being held in the county Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

He is accused of shooting his 16-year-old daughter once and his 43-year-old wife twice during a domestic incident at their Bevier Road home, sheriff s Capt. Robert McLaughin said.

Mr. Garcia was arrested nearby shortly after authorities responded to the domestic incident, which was reported about 7 p.m.

Captain McLaughlin declined to release the names of the victims.

The victims were taken to Mercy Hospital of Willard and then flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where the girl was in critical condition and the woman is in fair condition Friday, the captain said.

He would not comment on the nature of the women s injuries or what led to the shooting.

The Ohio Bureau of Investigation and Identification is assisting with the investigation.
