BELLEVUE, Ohio - Two Willard, Ohio, girls were in serious condition at a Toledo hospital Sunday after the car they were in slid beneath a tractor-trailer east of Bellevue on Saturday, authorities said.
Katie Danhoff and Courtney Machiusi, both 16, were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center by medical helicopter after the crash at 5:33 p.m. on Section Line 30 Road at U.S. 20 in Lyme Township, Huron County.
The driver of the car, Tyler Secor, 17, of Willard, was traveling north on Section Line 30 and failed to stop at a sign at U.S. 20.
His car slid under a tractor-trailer driven by Luis Herrera, 29, of Richmond, Texas, that was going east on U.S. 20, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Norwalk.
Young Secor was treated at Bellevue Hospital, and his third passenger, Anderson Showman, 17, of Willard, refused treatment. Mr. Herrera was not injured, according to the highway patrol.
The accident remains under investigation, although alcohol is not suspected, troopers said.
