Fatal traffic accidents in Lucas County are declining, according to the Lucas County Traffic Safety Program.
The group reported that from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, the county had 12 fatal traffic crashes resulting in 14 deaths. This was a decrease from 14 fatal crashes and 19 deaths during the same period the previous year.
In 2008, Lucas County had 32 fatal crashes and 37 deaths, which was a decrease from the 2007 toll. During that year, the county had 52 fatal crashes with 62 deaths.
The traffic safety program is funded through an Ohio Department of Public Safety grant.
