The murder trial for Dana Rister continued in Lucas County Common Pleas Court yesterday with testimony from a DNA analyst and the detective who interviewed him.
Rister, 42, of 2223 Laurel Valley Drive is charged with two alternate counts of murder for the death of Debra Pioterek, whose body was found June 26 in a shed near Southwyck Shopping Center in South Toledo. Ms. Pioterek, 57, was strangled and her death ruled a homicide.
During the second day of Rister s trial, the jury of seven women and five men heard testimony about how Rister s DNA was found under the victim s fingernails.
They also watched portions of a recorded statement Rister made to detectives in San Bernardino County, California, where he was arrested in September.
Because of technical problems, jurors did not see the entire interview. The remaining portions of the interview as well as defense questions to San Bernardino County Sheriff s Detective Greg Myler are expected when the trial resumes today.
If convicted, Rister faces life in prison.
