Police identify driver in hospital parking garage crash

Toledo police have released the name of the woman who earlier this week drove her car off the second floor of a parking garage at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Betty Hinton, 71, of West Toledo was released after she was treated at the hospital, a hospital spokesman said.

Ms. Hinton was pulling into a parking space on the second floor about10:30 a.m. when she stepped on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal, causing the car to penetrate a barrier and drop to the ground.

The vehicle landed on its top, trapping the driver, police said.

She was extricated from the car within 15 minutes, according to Toledo Deputy Fire Chief Phil Cervantes.

The incident remains under investigation.
