Candy Huner and her husband are struggling to get by after Randy Huner’s business closed. She will begin teaching part time to supplement their income and she has developed a Web site to share suggestions on how to live simply.
Day by day, the Huners in Maumee are getting by.
Randy Huner has a new part-time job at his church doing janitorial work that will help bring in some money.
Candy Huner is going to teach a new class on how to shop on a budget at Rossford Public Library.
"I can't say we are doing terrible," said Mrs. Huner, who cleans homes and runs a Web site, dealwithitsimply.com, on simple and cost-effective living. "We are doing great. I'd say the Lord has a plan for us."
The Huners have struggled since Mr. Huner's business closed last summer. The medical-supply firm he started 18 months earlier fell victim to the rising costs of running a business in a tough economy.
Without his income, the family has cut back on spending and is trying to do the best it can for its four children: Kelsey, 19, Lyndsey, 16, Jacob, 14, and Ben, 12.
The job with Trinity Lutheran Church will bring in some much-needed money. "It will make some extra dollars," Mr. Huner said. "I have other ideas and I want to start another business, and this will help me to obtain that goal."
Mrs. Huner said she is excited about sharing ideas with people about how to live on a budget, knowing that times are tough for many families across the region.
"I feel like all of the other people have such stories, and we have nothing to complain about," she said.
"At least we have a job we can count on. A lot of people don't have that. I feel like I don't have any room to complain."
