DEFIANCE - A fire that displaced five households Friday night in the Rosewood Apartments on the city's south side started on the complex's first floor, authorities said.

All residents were evacuated safely, and there were no injuries.

The blaze began about 6:50 p.m. in the 24-unit complex at 344 East Rosewood Ave. Six apartments were unoccupied, according to the city's safety department.

Ten neighboring departments were called in to assist Defiance firefighters. The fire was declared under control about 9 p.m., a fire dispatcher said.
