A 47-year-old man has been arrested for killing a North Toledo woman and injuring her husband in a break-in at their Mulberry Street home earlier this summer.
Edgar Howard is charged with aggravated murder and felonious assault. He is being held in the Lucas County jail for separate robbery and burglary charges against other elderly victims, ages 99 and 88.
Mr. Howard is accused of killing Frances Fox, 88, and beating her husband, Kenneth Fox, 74, during a robbery at their home in the 3300 block of Mulberry.
Police said forensic evidence linked Mr. Howard to the crime scene.
When it occurred, Toledo Police Chief Mike Navarre said the couple were very brutally assaulted.
Mrs. Fox was the mother of a Toledo police sergeant.
Mr. Fox, who was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and police say is still recovering from his injuries and has been unable to communicate, is believed to have been knocked out and remained unconscious for days before calling 911 on May 5.
The Fox s home had been ransacked and property was missing.
