OAK HARBOR, Ohio - An Oak Harbor woman was critically injured yesterday when her car went left of center on State Rt. 2 in Ottawa County's Benton Township and crashed head on into a tractor-trailer rig, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Nicole Spino, 27, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where a nursing supervisor said she was listed in critical condition last night.
She was driving east on Route 2 at 8:25 a.m. and was just west of State Rt. 590 when the accident occurred, troopers from the Sandusky post said. Her car went into a ditch.
The truck driver, Rodrigo Barrientes, 50, of Norwalk, Ohio, lost control of his vehicle after the impact and struck a utility pole. The cab burst into flames and was destroyed. Mr. Barrientes was treated at St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon.
The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
