Toledoan is indicted in thefts from autos

An 18-year-old Toledo man was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Friday on charges that he stole items from several cars around Ottawa Hills.

Jeremiah Snyder of 281 Cedar Ridge was charged with one count burglary, two counts of theft, and one count of receiving stolen property. Additional misdemeanor theft charges were filed in Toledo Municipal Court.

According to a report, Ottawa Hills Police Chief Robert Overmeyer stopped Mr. Snyder at 3:35 a.m. July 9 because he did not have proper lighting on his bicycle and the chief noticed that the suspect carried several cell phones and iPods in his pockets.

During a subsequent interview, Mr. Snyder admitted taking property from unlocked vehicles parked at four Ottawa Hills residences. Others are suspected in what police believe may be a theft ring.

If convicted, Mr. Snyder faces up to 11 years in prison.
