Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop announced yesterday two new drop-off locations for those willing to donate old cell phones to help combat domestic violence.
Red Envy Boutique, 3147 West Central Ave., and the Kingston Care Center of Sylvania, 4121 King Rd., join four other donation centers in the 911 Cell Phones for Domestic Violence Victims program.
Phones are scrubbed of personal data and are given to clients of the Toledo YWCA Battered Women s Shelter. The phones are programmed only to dial 911, and cannot accept incoming calls.
More than 200 phones have been donated since the program began last month, Mr. Konop said. This program is separate from the 911 Cell Phones for Seniors program, which Mr. Konop started two years ago.
Other drop-off sites are the YWCA, La Luna Salon in Sylvania, the University of Toledo s Catherine Eberly Center for Women, and the county commissioners office.
