4 Youth Empowerment Awards given by Toledo

Three people and an organization were honored Friday by the city of Toledo s Board of Community Relations with 2009 Youth Empowerment Awards.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner said the four honorees Teen Outreach, Tyrone Bledsoe, Gloria Johnson, and Josh Flores have dedicated time, talent, and energy to improve the lives of youth in our community.

The Teen Outreach program focuses on values for the growth and development of relationships, communication, and decision-making.

Mr. Bledsoe is the founder of the Student African American Brotherhood.

Ms. Johnson, who has worked with young people for five years, is a community partner for the Toledo Board of Education.

Mr. Flores mentors at-risk youth through a variety of organizations, including the YWCA, FLOC, and Adalante.
