A 19-year-old Waterville man was killed yesterday morning on his way to work when his car struck a tree off Monclova Road in Swanton Township, authorities said.
Jacob M.J. Childers was pronounced dead at the scene at6:24 a.m., said Steve Kahle, an investigator for the Lucas County Coroner s Office.
Mr. Childers was traveling west on Monclova Road, west of State Rt. 295, when his car veered off the right side of the roadway. He steered back onto the road but overcorrected, and his car went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.
He was not wearing a seat belt and rescue crews extricated him from the vehicle, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The patrol s Toledo post is investigating the crash.
Mr. Childers lived in Waterville with his parents, who told authorities that he was driving to work yesterday morning at an area golf course.
The deal allows the land to be redeveloped, but forbids ground water from being extracted for human use.
