Students at Reynolds Elementary School are having an impromptu picnic lunch after their school building was evacuated because of smoke.
There was apparently some sort of electrical short about 9:30 a.m. Friday in the new school, 5000 Norwich Rd., that caused smoke to fill the building.
There was not a fire, Toledo Public Schools spokesman Patty Mazur said.
The school was evacuated and the fire department attempted to clear the smoke with large fans, Ms. Mazur said, but it was determined that the students would not continue the school day there.
Students were served lunch outside in a picnic style setting and afterward are being bused to Rogers High School to finish the school day.
Reynolds students who take the bus home will get on the bus this afternoon at Rogers to go home and Reynolds students who typically walk to school will be bused back to the elementary and will walk home from there, Ms. Mazur said.
