The Midtown post office won't be closed, the office of U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) announced last night.
In a news release, Miss Kaptur said she had received assurances from the postmaster general that the post office, at 1609 Dorr St. will be removed from the Postal Service's list of possible candidates for closing.
Midtown was one of 413 stations and branches under review for closure. Until Sept. 2, the Point Place branch was on the list as well.
Neighborhood residents have been agitating against the possible closing of Midtown. Miss Kaptur said argued to postal officials that Midtown was crucial to economic development efforts in the Dorr Street corridor.
