Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about the shooting death of a man whose body was found outside an Old West End home.


Frustrated with the policies and practices of the Lucas County dog warden, a prominent Sylvania veterinarian said yesterday he would support a dog license boycott if serious changes aren't made soon. "I'd like to see a complete change in the way the dog warden is administered and run," said Dr. Bob Esplin, owner and founder of SylvaniaVET on Holland-Sylvania Road.


The significance of the Mayans' "Long Count" calendar coming to an end on Dec. 21, 2012, has gotten lots of people talking about the end of the world. Hollywood jumped into the conversation yesterday with the release of 2012, a star-studded action movie that uses the buzz over the Mayan calendar as a jumping-off point for a series of slam-bang, computer-generated disaster scenes.

Her life is one of many that will be taken that year by sharpshooters assigned to thin out the Summit County Metroparks system's burgeoning deer population.


The Monroe County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate an armed robbery and attempted murder incident over the weekend in which the suspect shot twice at the victim. Early Saturday morning a 27-year-old man was stopped at the intersection of Cole Road and Vivian Road in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township when he was approached by an unknown man, deputies said.


Four people were arrested on outstanding warrants as a result of a sobriety checkpoint in Oregon. Police said 1,127 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint in the 2800 block of State Rt. 2 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday.
