More than 200 people organized by the Toledo Area Jobs with Justice Coalition rallied Friday outside Sunoco Inc.'s East Toledo refinery to protest the refinery's decision to hire 50 out-of-state workers for its annual maintenance project that begins March 12.
A Sunoco spokesman said an out-of-state contractor had the low bid for some work, but 550 other project jobs will go to local workers. Coalition spokesman Karen Krause said protesters want only local workers to be hired, given the area's high unemployment rate.
