Fans brave the rain for Elton John tickets at the Lucas County Arena
Tickets to see Elton John perform in Toledo were gone in about 50 minutes, but none that braved the chilly temperatures and unrelenting drizzle Saturday morning were turned away.
All of the 170 people were waiting in line before box office doors opened at 10 a.m. Saturday walked away with tickets for the Elton John concert at the Lucas County Arena April 25.
About a dozen of the pop star's most hardcore fans camped out overnight. People started staking out their spots in line as early as 11 a.m. Friday. One of those was Freddie Flores, 46, of Toledo. His boss at Sunrise Windows in Temperance, Mich., let him leave work early Friday to camp out, and he found his place as second in line at about 3:30 p.m. Friday. Mr. Flores said he's never seen the performer live before.
"I can remember watching him on TV at 8 years old," Mr. Flores said. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I don't think he's going to be around much longer."
