Convience store clerk shoots, kills suspected robber
A would-be robber who walked into Bengal's Food Mart in South Toledo. wearing a wig was shot and killed by a store clerk on Sunday morning
Toledo police Sgt. Tim Noble said the man walked into the store, announced the robbery, and displayed a handgun. He then was shot by the clerk at the store at 2625 Airport Highway near Westwood Avenue.
Charlie Hunt, an investigator for the Lucas County coroner's office, said authorities have not yet identified the man who was fatally shot.
Sergeant Noble said there were three people inside the store at the time of the shooting. None was injured and all are being interviewed by police.
Police also are reviewing a surveillance camera inside the store.
The shooting at about 10:15 a.m. was the second time in two days a Toledo-area shop owner has shot an suspected robber.
On Friday, a South Toledo music store owner shot and seriously wounded a man who police say was trying to rob his store.
In that case, Eric Bilger, the co-owner of the Allied Music store who shot the suspect, had recently purchased a gun and acquired a concealed-carry permit.
The music store in South Toledo had been robbed three times since last summer, co-owner Mark Bilger said on Friday.
