Luckey teen wins Blade spelling bee

The winner of the 2010 Blade Northwest Ohio Championship Spelling Bee is Lucas Liner, 13, of Luckey, Ohio.

Lucas, a student at Eastwood Middle School, clinched the championship Thursday night at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township with his correct spelling of “suasible” — capable of being induced into some mental position.

He will receive a trip to the National Spelling Bee, which begins June 2 in Washington, with his expenses paid by The Blade. His prizes also included a Merriam-Webster's Third New International Dictionary, a $100 savings bond, and a plaque.

The runner-up was Carl Bachmayer, 15, of West Toledo, who is home schooled. His prizes included a Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and a plaque.
