OK, there was a tad too much humidity in the air. But other than that, Sunday's 34th annual Glass City Marathon pretty much came off without a hitch.

Race Director Clint McCormick said the downpour held off until about noon, soaking only the slower runners. "We got it in just under the wire," he said.

Perrysburg's Matt Folk, 34, a Clay graduate and general manager of Second Sole running shop at Levis Commons, repeated as the winner, running the marathon in just under 2 1/2 hours. He improved upon his winning time of 2 hours, 31 minutes and 4 seconds last year.

For years, the event drew 700 to 800 runners. This year's attracted a record 3,500, more than twice last year's record of 1,600. Some 600 of this year's runners did the marathon themselves, while 1,500 people each ran half the distance. There also were more than 100 five-person teams, and dozens participating in an affiliated kids' race and 5K race.

More than 800 volunteers also helped out with logistics.
