The Andersons posts record profit in quarter

The Andersons Inc. reported a record first-quarter profit yesterday of $12.3 million, or 66 cents a share, up 146 percent from its profit of $5 million, or 27 cents a share, for the same period a year ago.

The Maumee agribusiness conglomerate said it had sales for the quarter of $722 million, up 4 percent from $697 million a year ago.

The company attributed much of the earnings gain to strength in its grain and ethanol group holdings.
