Seneca County tells 217 to pay $824,000 in taxes

TIFFIN — Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine is writing letters again.

The prosecutor's office this month sent letters to 217 property owners who owe the county more than $824,000 in delinquent real estate taxes. The figures are up from last year when 196 letters were sent out in an attempt to collect about $653,000.

Mr. DeVine said sending a letter was an inexpensive way to go after delinquent taxes, though it is the first step toward proceeding with foreclosure. He said more than $175,000 was paid by property owners who received the letters last year.
