110 laid-off area workers get trade assistance aid

The U.S. Department of Labor has approved trade assistance benefits for 110 workers laid off at northwest Ohio businesses in Findlay, Bowling Green, and Deshler.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown's office said Thursday the benefits will cover 15 workers in Findlay and 20 in Bowling Green who worked for Ryder Integrated Logistics, which moved some operations to Canada and eliminated workers' jobs transporting auto parts.

And 75 more workers in Deshler and Napoleon lost their jobs with Sherwin-Williams Paint Co. because of increased imports of roller covers and roller paint trays.

The federal program provides extra unemployment compensation and job-training and hunting assistance to workers who lose their jobs or whose work hours and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports.
