657 Lucas County dog license records lost

More than 650 dog owners in Lucas County are being asked to contact the Lucas County Auditor's Office to verify that they have purchased their annual dog license, Auditor Anita Lopez said Monday.

Ms. Lopez said a vendor, Pet Supplies Plus, of 6923 West Central Ave., lost the records of 657 licenses that were sold in January. She said the vendor has taken responsibility for losing the license forms and has agreed to her request to offer a $15 gift certificate to each pet owner whose license was lost.

Ms. Lopez said the problem came to light after a letter went out in July to dog owners who had not renewed their licenses. Ms. Lopez said the county received the money for the licenses, and knows which license numbers are not accounted for.

Sue Burton, avian director for Pet Supplies Plus who is overseeing the situation with the dog licenses, said the company did not want to comment.

The annual licenses cost $25, and vendors who sell the licenses for the auditor are paid 75 cents for each license sold.
