Man in custody after woman fatally struck while crossing Alexis Road

A 25-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon in West Toledo after she was struck by a pickup truck that ran through a light, authorities said.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was crossing Alexis Road near Bennett Road about 4:30 p.m. when she was hit. Witnesses said she was thrown 100 feet into the air.

She was pronounced dead at Mercy St. Anne's.

The driver initially fled the scene but was arrested less than an hour later. His name and charges were not available.

The victim worked for the Piccadilly West Apartments, 434 Alexis Rd., and was showing a prospective tenant an apartment when the incident occurred.
