Woman killed in hit-skip while crossing Alexis identified
Authorities have identified Angel Wells, 28, as the woman killed Friday afternoon in West Toledo after she was struck by a pickup truck that ran through a red light, authorities said.
Ms. Wells was crossing Alexis Road at Bennett Road about 4:30 p.m.
She was pronounced dead at Mercy St. Anne Hospital.
The driver fled the scene. But police, working from a description provided by witnesses, arrested him 30 minutes later in a nearby neighborhood, Sgt. P.K. Skinner said.
The driver's name and charges were not available.
The victim worked for the Piccadilly West Apartments, 434 Alexis Rd., and was showing prospective tenants an apartment when she was struck. The prospective tenants, Ashley Wilbur and Vincent Navarro, said they were a couple of feet behind the woman in the crosswalk when she was hit.
“The light had turned green for us to walk, but he [the pickup driver] speeded up to run the red light,” Mr. Navarro said.
Joseph Cruz, who lives in Piccadilly West, said the victim, whose full name he could not recall, worked as a secretary and dealt with tenants.
