3 die in area traffic crashes
Three people, including a city of Toledo worker, were killed during traffic crashes this week, police said.
An off-duty worker for the city of Toledo was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a car that turned into his path in South Toledo, police said. Harold D. Fowler, 54, of South Toledo was pronounced dead at Toledo Hospital less than an hour after the accident.
Mr. Fowler was northbound on South Fearing Boulevard approaching Airline Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday when a southbound car driven by Montrice Boyd, 29, 1657 Belmont Ave. drove into his path. Mr. Boyd was attempting to turn left onto Airline and struck Mr. Fowler's motorcycle.
Mr. Boyd initially fled the scene on foot but was located at his home, police said.
Mr. Fowler had worked as a traffic signal technician in the department of traffic engineering since 1993, city records show.
A woman was killed Tuesday after she was struck by a tractor-trailer as she tried to push her broken-down vehicle off I-75 just south of Perrysburg, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Jacqueline L. Jankowski, 35, of Toledo was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
She was driving northbound on I-75 just before midnight when her sport-utility vehicle developed mechanical problems and stopped in the right lane. It was initially unclear why her vehicle was stopped, Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Dean Laubacher said.
Ms. Jankowski and her passenger, Kenneth C. Goodwin, 39, of Toledo, exited and attempted to push the vehicle off the road. As they were doing so, a tractor-trailer driven by Kevin D. Kran, 35, of Bay City, Mich., struck and killed Ms. Jankowski.
There were no other injuries and the crash remains under investigation.
A Clyde man was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle collided with a car that drove left of center on State Rt. 101 in Sandusky County, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Nicholas R. Darr, 24, was dead at the scene, troopers said.
Mr. Darr was southbound on Route 101 about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when a northbound car driven by Lana C. Adams, 16, of Clyde went left of center and struck him in Green Creek Township.
Mr. Darr was thrown from his motorcycle. Troopers said they have not determined whether he was wearing a helmet.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, and charges are pending, troopers said.
