39 Lake Local children get free shopping spree

BLADE STAFF

Thanks to relief donations, youths in the Lake Local School District whose homes were most devastated by the June 5 tornadoes will be treated to a back-to-school shopping spree.

Each of the 39 youths chosen for the group trip Sunday will receive a $200 Visa gift card to spend at JC Penney and Aeropostale in the Shops at Fallen Timbers, organizer Diane Witt, wife of district Superintendent Jim Witt, said.

The children and their families will have free ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery later. The trip was paid for by the Lake Kids Relief Fund, which has collected about $17,000 through donations and fund-raisers. The fund will sponsor other events for those most affected by the June disaster, she said.

On Saturday, the Cleveland Browns will treat Lake football players and coaches to a preseason football game. The Blue Lake Tour and Charter is providing transportation.
