Authorities have released the identities of the two 19-year-olds who were killed and the survivor in a violent single-vehicle wreck early Tuesday morning on Broadway near Field Avenue in South Toledo.
The victims were identified as Markeon Antonious Chaney, 19, and Gregory Williams, 19, both of central Toledo.
Javaughn Jones, 16, also of central Toledo, is in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
Investigators say Jones was a backseat passenger in a stolen gray Honda as it traveled southbound on Broadway at speeds in excess of 80 mph when it crashed into a utility pole about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, splitting the car into three pieces.
None of the victims was carrying any form of identification, according to Toledo Police Officer Larry Emery, the lead accident investigator.
Mr. Chaney was identified through fingerprints, while Mr. Williams was identified by photographs of tattoos that were shown to his family, said Steve Kahle, a Lucas County coroner's investigator.
Autopsies are planned for Wednesday.
The impact of the crash threw all three occupants from the vehicle. The Jones youth was found lying in the street on Walbridge near Broadway. Police recovered one body in the street on Field Avenue and another body on the curb at Field and Broadway.
Police said they did not know why the car was traveling so fast. Law enforcement was not pursuing the vehicle at the time of the wreck.
The vehicle had been stolen from Aladdin's Eatery, 4038 Talmadge Rd., police said. It had 212,000 miles on the odometer.
Jones' juvenile record shows that in 2008 he was convicted of delinquency in connection with grand theft auto multiple times, Lucas County Court Administrator Dan Pompa said.
Debris from the crash was spread through the intersection -- across a distance of 100 yards -- after the vehicle broke into three large pieces.
The middle section wrapped around a street light at Field Avenue, and the back and front sections continued down the block to Walbridge.
Broadway, having been closed from Crittenden Avenue to South Avenue most of Tuesday morning, was reopened by 10:45 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
