Teenage driver injured in Fostoria police chase

FOSTORIA — The 16-year-old driver of a vehicle being chased by police was injured Tuesday when his vehicle slammed into a ditch, and he was thrown into a field in Seneca County, Fostoria police Chief John McGuire said.

Casey Cole, 16, of Fostoria, was treated at Toledo Hospital.

Chief McGuire said city police officers received a report from sheriff's deputies that a sport-utility vehicle had been stolen from Loudon Township Road 114.

Just before 10:30 p.m., a Fostoria officer observed the vehicle driving through alleys.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle, which took off at speeds “well above the posted limit,” Chief McGuire said, and left the city eastbound on State Rt. 12.

The chase ended at Jackson Township Road 57 when the SUV hit the ditch.

A passenger, Mikia Jackson, 16, also of Fostoria, was not hurt, the chief said.

Charges are pending, Chief McGuire said.
