Suspect sought in break-in, robbery attempt in Tiffin

TIFFIN - Tiffin police are looking for a man who forced his way into a home and tried to rob the resident.

Police said George W. Stein, 78, heard a knock at his door and opened it after 10 p.m. Sept. 22, when the man moved past him and, once inside, demanded his wallet.

As the man tried to turn Mr. Stein around to take the wallet, Mr. Stein fought back, hitting the man with household objects. The man ran to a dark sport utility vehicle or pickup waiting near Elmer and Wentz streets.

Mr. Stein suffered a minor cut in his head.

Police described the man as white and in his late teens or early 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and 145 pounds. The man wore a hooded shirt or sweatshirt with the hood tightly drawn around his face. He had a knife and handgun.

Tiffin police ask anyone with information to call 419-447-2323.
