Elderly man hospitalized, wife missing after fire near Findlay

FINDLAY — An elderly man was sent to the hospital and his wife is missing after a residential fire in Allen Township north of here, authorities said.

Hancock County Sheriff Michael Heldman said the 89-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. His wife has not been found. Their names have not been released.

The fire started shortly before 2 p.m. in a multifamily residence at 5188 County Road 18. The elderly couple lived downstairs with a daughter. The second floor contains two apartments.

The cause of the blaze is unknown, Sheriff Heldman said, and an investigator from the state fire marshal's office was at the scene.
