Arraignment of 3 men set in beating case

Three family members charged in the near-fatal beating of a man are to be arraigned Tuesday by Judge James Bates in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Ruben A. Lopez, 54, of 907 Homer Ave. and his sons Ruben A. Garcia, also known as Ruben Lopez, 33, of 1117 Mason St. and Michael Lopez, 30, of 1106 East Bancroft St. were indicted on felonious-assault charges Wednesday.

Each faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.

They are charged with beating Dewayne Arnold after he apparently urinated on their vehicle in East Toledo. Emergency crews on scene resuscitated the victim, who wasn't breathing and had no pulse.

The victim was on the ground with his pants down.

The three suspects were kicking him when police arrived at Starr Avenue and East Broadway about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 2.
