Woman injured in Erie County crash
BAY VIEW, Ohio — A passenger was injured Sunday when the car she was riding in went off U.S. 6 in Townsend Township in Erie County, struck a traffic sign, and overturned, troopers with the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The crash, reported at 6:56 p.m., sent Evelyn Griffin, 48, of Fremont, to Firelands Regional Medical Center for what troopers said were "incapacitating injuries." Her condition was not available.
Troopers said the driver, Emsley J. Absher, 49, of Fremont, was driving a 1988 Ford Ranger, which sustained severe damage. The accident closed the highway for about 30 minutes.
Investigators said Mr. Absher was traveling west on U.S. 6 when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the right side of the road, struck traffic sign and overturned. He was cited for failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
Troopers said alcohol was not a factor and Mr. Absher and Ms. Griffin were wearing seat belts.
