Gas line break causes evacuation, closing of streets in Sylvania Township

McCord Road and Kelker Street in Sylvania Township were closed Thursday afternoon because a contractor broke a natural gas line.

The break, reported about 3:10 p.m., is at 3248 Zone Ave. Fire crews evacuated nearby homes on both sides of the street and notified Columbia Gas.

Chris Kozak, a Columbia spokesman, said the broken line was a 2 inch plastic medium pressure residential customer service line. He said it would be a relatively easy repair and he expected it to be done quickly. Only one customer was without service.
