Holland woman to go to Jefferson Awards rites

Mary Lou Leonard will represent northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan at the Jefferson Awards National Ceremonies in Washington June 21.

Ms. Leonard of Holland is a local Jefferson Award winner who distributes shoes to needy children and is known as “the Shoe Lady.” She is the founder of Christian Health Ministries, a clinic that provides free medical care to the poor. She is also active in the Red Cross and has worked in medical missions in Equatorial Guinea and Belarus.
