Four local southeast Michigan communities are among 119 who recently received the “Tree City USA” designation, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources and the Arbor Day Foundation.
Included are Adrian, Morenci, Hillsdale, and Tecumseh.
The designation is given to those communities who promoted community forestry during 2010. Communities are certified for work accomplished in 2010 and were recently presented with their awards materials during the Michigan Community Tree Seminar on April 13.
The Tree City USA program promotes proper tree care and management in urban areas and calls attention to the economic, health, and aesthetic benefits trees offer.
