Multi-Cast Corp. of Wauseon is facing $178,500 in fines from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for 13 safety and health violations found in November.

In a statement Wednesday, OSHA said Multi-Cast was fined $147,000 for three “willful” violations, including failing to make sure employees wore flame-retardant clothing and used face shields while working around molten metal.

The company also was cited for several “serious” and “other-than-serious” violations, such as failing to provide guards on stair railings, and allowing an employee to work under a 2,500-pound sand mold.

The firm has the ability to appeal the citation and the fine.
