Guardian Angels help watch store on big days
The Guardian Angels will provide extra eyes and ears to protect bargain-hungry Black Friday shoppers at the Walmart on Glendale Avenue.
Terry Wertz, Guardian Angels Toledo chapter leader, said his volunteer organization will patrol the retailer’s parking lot, as well as nearby areas, in response to recent car break-ins at city shopping centers.
“We originated in the Old South End, where most of the members still live. The Glendale Walmart is where most of our neighborhood does their shopping. We just want to give our neighbors a safe place to shop,” Mr. Wertz said.
The unarmed patrols will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday and will continue through Friday.
Toledo’s chapter of the New York-based Guardian Angels has offered security at area churches, schools, and special events since 2006.
