Man injured slightly in Williams County crash

BLADE STAFF

EDON, Ohio — An Edgerton, Ohio, man escaped with only minor injuries when the tractor trailer rig he was driving on a Williams County road overturned Wednesday night, trapping him in the wreckage and causing a local power outage, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Daniel Newman, 55, was treated for minor injuries at Williams County Community Hospital in Bryan, troopers at the patrol’s Defiance post said.

Mr. Newman was driving south on County Road 4-50 just north of County Road E-75 about 8:30 p.m. when for unknown reasons the semi drove off the east side of the road, struck a utility pole, and overturned, coming to rest on its top. Area rescue crews extricated him from the wreckage more than an hour later, according to the patrol.

Several homes in the immediate vicinity lost power. Toledo Edison crews arrived and restored service to all but one of the affected utility customers later in the night, expecting to complete their work Thursday, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation, with citations pending, according to the patrol.

Edon is about 60 miles west of Toledo.
