FINDLAY — The mayor of Findlay has joined other Hancock County elected and economic development officials on a trip to Japan in an attempt to build stronger international relations and possibly attract new investment.

The eight-member group plans to meet with representatives from firms with operations in Findlay, learn a bit of Japanese culture, and pitch the area as a place ripe for business opportunities.

“There are a number of different groups they’ve met with,” said Jeremy Hofrne, a spokesman for Findlay mayor Lydia Mihalik. “There’s not a specific target. Rather, we want to be able to share again what the area of Findlay has to offer.” He said seven Japanese-owned companies are in the Findlay area.

The group left Friday and is due back Sunday. Mr. Horne said Ms. Mihalik paid her way and no city money would be spent on the trip.
