41 are sworn in as U.S. citizens

Area residents from 28 lands take part in ceremony at zoo

Forty-one area residents from 28 countries became American citizens during a ceremony Thursday at the Toledo Zoo.

U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary administered the oath of citizenship during the ceremony in the indoor theater of the zoo's Museum of Science.

The new citizens, listed by their country of origin, are:

Armenia -- Karine Benik Avanyan

Bangladesh -- Sita Rani Das

Brazil -- Leonard Andrew Oliveira Callender, Diego Ricardo Waxemberg

Burma -- Moe San

Canada -- Timothy Robert Thomas Hogan

Dominica -- Samuel Joseph Christian

Eritrea -- Zebib Beyene Gradina

Germany -- Brigitta Erika Emmert-Mathews

India -- Raman Singh Bola, Amit Mukeshbhai Patel, Hemantkumar Chaturbhai Patel

Iran -- Ahmad Morad Roudbari

Ireland -- Shane Michael Keady
