Toledo postal service to remain open until 2014
The U.S. Postal Service will keep its Toledo processing center open until at least 2014, according to the office of U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur.
Postal Service officials won't confirm that information, but regional spokesman David Van Allen said an announce regarding the Postal Service's efforts to streamline its mail processing network is forthcoming later today.
“We're hearing good things,” said Steve Fought, spokesman for Rep. Kaptur. “I think they're going to say the processing center is going to stay open through 2013.”
The financially troubled Postal Service was planning to cut closing thousands of post offices and consolidating hundreds of processing centers to cut costs, but it has faced strong public protest.
The Toledo mail processing facility on South St. Clair Street employs about 400 people, Mr. Fought said.
