Wood County crash kills Toledoan, injures 2

BLADE STAFF

BOWLING GREEN -- A Toledo man died Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 6, near Sand Ridge Road in Wood County's Plain Township.

Thomas J. Joseph, 58, former trustee and business manager of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 50, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:30 p.m. crash. The other two drivers, Helen Missildine, 67, of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Nickolas Horvath, 43, of Bellevue, Ohio, were taken to Wood County Hospital.

The Ohio Highway Patrol said Mr. Joseph was westbound on U.S. 6 when he tried to pass a vehicle in the eastbound lane, striking head-on the tractor-trailer driven by Mr. Horvath. Mr. Thomas' vehicle then rotated back into the westbound lane, striking the car driven by Ms. Missildine.
