Safety upgrades ordered at E. Toledo rail crossing

State officials have directed Norfolk Southern Railway to install warning lights and gates at an East Toledo railroad crossing within nine months.

Federal funds will pay for the devices at the Burger Street crossing, after which NS will be responsible for their maintenance.

The work was ordered by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Norfolk Southern also was directed to upgrade the warning devices at two crossings at Main Street and State Rt. 590 in or near Rocky Ridge, Ohio, that have lights and gates.
